Understanding SMP / Scalpainting

Not a hair transplant, but it changes the whole picture.

Understanding SMP / Scalpainting

SMP places micro-dots of pigment in the scalp to simulate hair follicles, making thinning areas look denser and redefining the hairline. It is a cosmetic treatment, not a hair-loss therapy. Most cases take two to three sessions about two weeks apart.

What SMP does and does not do

SMP works on what the eye sees: it gives a thinning scalp visible follicle texture and gives the front hairline a defined shape. It does not stimulate regrowth and it is not a medical treatment.

Why it takes several sessions

The first session lays a base density in a lighter tone, because colour softens by roughly 20–30% once healed. Later sessions build depth and blend. Going dark in a single session produces a hard, difficult-to-correct result.

An age-appropriate hairline

A hairline set too low stops looking natural as a client ages. A good artist designs to the face and the stage of life, rather than simply going as low as possible.

Long-term care

Sun is the main cause of fading. Scalp sunscreen once fully healed measurably extends the life of the work.
